The Griff Redesign

The goal set out for this project was to conceive a complete redesign of The Griff student magazine. Acting as the creative director, editor, and designer it began with establishing a new direction for the magazine in terms of style, point of view, and designing components that supported the creative direction of the redesign. With the current version of The Griff feeling very clean and refined it offered opportunities with the redesign to explore new avenues of creativity while still holding true to the magazines mandate of wanting to meaningfully engage about things that matter to MacEwan University students.

This redesign of The Griff was intended to be a back-to-school September Issue focusing on back-to-school fashion, more specifically the world of upcycled vintage fashion. With more students embracing more environmentally conscious decisions this has inevitably crossed over to the world of fast fashion and encourages students to consider upcycling their clothes or buying vintage to combat clothing waste. The chosen articles featured in this redesign aim at educating the reader on the waste that is generated from producing new garments, showcasing local vintage resellers in our city, as well as ways you can breathe new life into old clothes hanging in your own closet. Bearing all this in mind this magazines concept aims to educate, showcase, and engage with MacEwan students on an important issue.

 Catalogue Design

The goal set out for this project was to conceive a complete redesign of an existing catalogue. I chose to breath new life into Crate & Barrels catalogue by utilizing colourful, bold and engaging elements designed to get the viewer excited and showcase the variety of home decor products Crate & Barrel offers.

Using a color system to organize the different categories of products I went about creating a cohesive system that worked to showcase many different types of information. This was achieved through different type hierarchies, use of imagery, and showcasing a product of each category in context to get the consumer excited about where these products might begin to look in their own homes.
